Problem, I’m trying to wire a tanning bed. I have a 4 wire 220volt line in my attic that powers a hot tub. can I split off this line? Next problem, the tanning bed has three wires I have 4. I think red & black should go to terminal along with the ground the white can be capped. sound right. I would also like to put a separate breaker in line.
You aren’t allowed to ‘tap’ off other lines, except under specific circumstances. In your case, you’ll need to run a new circuit from the panel to your tanning bed.
The reason for this is that the wire/breaker is sized for the current hot tub. As soon as you add something else to the circuit, you’ll likely end up overloading it – and no, you can’t just upsize the breaker (not that you suggested it).
