Air Filter

November 10th, 2009

Folks:
My son has a 2004 jeep wrangler with 28,000 miles.Recently
he changed his oil and installed a new air filter. The air filter
is a k&n high flow filter. The filter people claim this high flow gives more horsepower and increased combustion efficiency.
What he has noticed is a five degree rise in his engine temperature. Is there any way this could be because of this
new filter.Thank you in advance for your opinions.

Five degrees? He has a temp guage that accurate? My instinct would be, no, probably not related. An engine running lean may run hotter than an optimum fuel/air ratio, but with modern electronics and fuel injection that’s not likely the case.
