Attic fan install

January 5th, 2010

What considerations, approaches, cautions, should one have in mind when selecting a circuit to tap into, for to install a small attic fan? The one’s not to tap into are, I think, are a)Kitchen circuits (I guess this includes the dining room) b) bathroom circuits c) dedicated circuits d) switch legs Can bathroom and kitchen light circuits (if they’re seperate from the receptacles) be utilized? Any advise is appreciated.

Make sure the attic fans amp load does not exceed 50% of the branch circuit rating, e.g., 20 amp branch circuit – 10 amp max fan amp load. Don’t use AFCI branch circuits if at all possible.
