Bathtub drain lever

While showering and washing my hair, I noticed the tub was not draining. When I checked the drain lever it was loose. did not know what came before removing the 2 screws that held the lever. Do not want a flood., and do not know what is behind the lever that drains the water normaly. Help—–
Something broke in thie linkage ?- You can get a replacement at Lowes/Home depot.
