Quite subjective. If you scan around the forums..you will find some knocks against A.O. Smith…which makes AO Smith,State, Reliance,American, Whirlpool, and some others, but many of those in separate factories. So it may or may not be unfair to paint too broad a brush. The Whirlpools have been a disaster and are the subject of a class action lawsuit.
Bradford White is a brand sold only to professional plumbers. Their reputation is outstanding. Rheem/Ruud are also very well known and don’t seem to have any negative feedback. GE at the HD is made by Rheem, and is essentialy similar to their commercial product lines.
