Ceiling fan short

January 23rd, 2010

I have a ceiling fan/light controlled by a switch with a slider to control fan speed and a toggle switch to control the light.

The lights have stopped working, just flashing for a moment when turned on.

I’m about to replace the switch, but can anyone give an opinion as to whether this sounds like it could be a problem with the fan/light it self?

Make sure your “slider” is not for lights, but instead approved for fan use. I doubt it. The resistance put out by the fan may have fried the switch. Your problem sounds to be that of the switch. I would consider replacing the switch with a fan rated switch first, then proceed up the line if the problem is not fixed. Cheaper than replacing the fan at the start.
