Cleaning sump pump pit

January 30th, 2010

I hope this is not a repeat question. I just noticed in my basement red sludge build up around the sump pump pit. The pump was replaced about 1 1/2 years ago. My question is how is the best way to clean this pit? I do have a wet/dry shop vac but was concerned about the sludge falling in the pit. Is it necessary to scrape the sides or just vaccum etc.

Hello, i had the same problem. All you have to do is the clean the sides with your hands and then you are free to vacuum away. Do realise you may have to unblock the vacuum with your fingers every now and then but other than that its a smooth process.
Hope this helps
Happy cleaning.
