Dryer not heating…Very Odd

November 6th, 2009

Ok..I had a perfectly fine dryer (I thought) that stopped heating. reading all kinds of info on the net I tried fixing it myself but made it even worse cause it wont even turn on now.
I bought a new used dryer and hooked it up and it still will not heat..points to the breaker right? I got the multitester and set to AC 250…put the two leads in and it reads 240..put the one lead in the L shape and got 115 from both.

Im totally confused….what else could it be? Ventalation? I hear the air come up the pipe and out the house…I can feel it coming out of the house

Any ideas?

The fact that there is electrical power at the wall outlet, indicates the problem is not electrical to the appliance. You will need to do a continuity test to determine if the power cord is okay.

Check continuity from the prongs of the plug to the connection locations inside the machine. Look for fuses and or a thermal fuse. Check those. Check the heating element, the timer control, etc.

Most likely inside the machine somewhere there is a palce or location where power isn’t being supplied to or a power using part, like the heating element, is defective. Does not appear to be a ventilation problem if the machine does not run or heat at all.

Read the dryer help information forum note pertaining to the appliance at the top of this forum for additional help.

Read the manufacturers online web site for additional product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, downloadable repair and or owners manuals, which may be available online.
