DWV challenge for house addition
Greetings..
I am stumped. I am adding an addition on to our house and will be installing a new bathroom. I will be running the new DWV pipes completely un-obstructed until I get to where I want to tie into the existing 3″ soil stack.
Here in lies my problem, as I was tracing the best and only route I run smack dab into my I beam that holds up the first floor of the existing house.
I could of course drop down below the beam, but then everyone walking in that part of the basement (which leads to the washer/dryer room) would have to duck. And the goal of finishing off that part of the basement ceiling would be ‘ugly’.
Is there any trick to get waste to run ‘uphill’ for a few feet?
I know this sounds absurb, but I am always surprised at what devices are available to the pros who encounter odd situations all the time.
Or do I just install a sewage lift station and force the waste through a 2″ DWV and then I can connect to other 2″ runs and drops easily in other parts of the basement.
The other choice I have is to just break out the basement floor and hope I find a 3″ drain pipe where the washer/dryer feeds into a 2″ stand pipe.
Any thoughts or ideas ..not matter how far fetched at appreicated.
I would try my best to avoid the lift station, even if it meant that I would have to duck while walking to the laundry area.
Does your existing sewer go below the floor before exiting the house? Could you break up the floor and run across to tie into the existing sewer below the floor?
Maybe you could install two lally columns and cut the I-beam between them to allow for the new drain piping.
