Fixing nail holes in plastic pipe?

November 21st, 2009

My home improvement projects always turn out bigger than I think they will! I removed ceramic tiles from the bathroom walls, but then had to replace some of the drywall. As I pulled off the drywall, I found that whoever installed the previous stuff put some nails in a black 2″ plastic pipe. I’ve found 3 nails sticking out of the pipe, but no water leak or evidence of previous leakage. I have not tried to remove the nails.

So, here is my question. Do I have to pull out the nails and repair the pipe? If so, what is the best way to do that? Or, since there hasn’t been any leakage, can I just work carefully around the nails and leave them there?

You should replace the pipe with the nail holes. They may not be leaking yet but they will. While you have them exposed, now would be the time to fix it. Doing it now will save you alot of time in the future. If you wait, you may be replacing more wall and pipe then you would if you fixed it now…
