Freezer Evaporator Fan Runs Constantly

December 25th, 2009

The evaporator fan runs constantly on my Frigidaire freezer model FFU20FC6AW7. The freezer is cooling ok and appears to change the temperature when I set the dial from low (about 20 degree) to high (about 0 degree). However, the evaporator fan stays on constantly regardless of the temperature dial setting. As a result, I think the compressor is working overtime here. This model does not have a compressor fan and the condenser is buried between the wall on the right side of this upright unit. Does this mean I have a bad temperature sensor? I’d appreciate some help diagnose this problem.

Strange, see if the compressor is in fact running when the fan is…..the compressor and fan should shut off when the unit goes into defrost most likely 2-3 times a day also…if you turn the thermostat off does the box go dead except for the light? according to your wiring diagram when the thermostat shuts the compressor down the fan should shut off also, if the thermostat was bad everything in the food compartment would be frozen or everything in the freezer thawed….not sure right now if you have a defrost problem or a sealed system problem, remove the panel inside of the freezer and see what the frost pattern is on the evaperator coil when the unit is running…suspecting right now a loss of freon or other problems with the sealed system like a compressor not pumping right…or if everything is holding the right temps you could have a wire to the fan motor shorted causing it to run all of the time.
