Grit from Kitchen Faucet

February 4th, 2010

We had a new kitchen faucet installed and we are now getting a white gritty substance that gets caught in the kitchen faucet filter and stops the water flow. This white grit only accumulates when the hot water is used – this is a single faucet unit.

Suggestions? The water heater is about 10 years old.

Search for the term “dip tube” with water heaters. There was a lawsuit settled years ago about this.

Easy check on dip tube or other problem. Place the grit in a little vinegar and see what happens. Mineral deposits will dissolve totally away. Dip tube parts will foam and then leave plastic behind.

Chances are it’s just some deposits knocked loose in the stop valve while hooking up the new faucet.

Good luck with your problem…
