Hooking up cottage to meter

January 29th, 2010

I have a small cabin 12 x 16 and I’m looking to hook electric to it. My cabin is aprrox. 400 – 450 feet away from the meter. What size of wire should I use to run underground. All I’ll have is a small refrig. , 5 outlets, and a ceiling ligt and switch. Thanks!

With that kind of distance go with #4 alum underground rated cable and put a small subpanel in the building

[ Run in 4 wire format due most area allready adopted the 08 code reqirement but if you are still on 05 code you may I say may squeak by with 3 wire set up unless you bring water or telephone cables then you have to stick with 4 wire set up ]
