Kenmore side-by-side dispenses ice but no water
My wife and i just bought our first house and when we moved in we realized the fridge wont dispense water. It’s a kenmore side-by-side model 3639550925. The ice maker works and the door dispenses ice, but when you slide the knob to water, nothing comes out. You can clearly hear what sounds like water being pumped (it makes the sound all fridges make when shooting water) but nothing happens. If you keep pushing the button eventually some kind of nasty ooze leaks out from behind the button pad where you push your glass to turn on the dispenser.
The house sat empty for 10 months, so i’m sure it wasn’t used during that time.
Anyone have any thoughts on what could be the cause? I’m also slightly worried that the water has to be going somewhere, but we haven’t seen any on the ground. I haven’t pulled the fridge out to check behind it, though.
Your water valve has two solenoids on it, one for water and one for ice. The water line for ice is 1/4″ and the water line for water is 5/16″. Get a bucket and disconnect the 5/16″ water line. Push the dispenser for water and see if it comes out of the water valve. If it does, then this is the path of the water line: Goes from valve up into the refrigerator section where it is stored in a reservoir or a large coil, comes back out of the refrigerator under the freezer and up through the freezer door hinge to the dispenser.
