Leaky joints

October 19th, 2009

Hi, I have a plubming issue, I recently put it a water pressure regulator in my home. The joints are threaded and I used thread tape. Now they have a couple of slow leaks.

What is a good solution, I’ve heard locktite mentioned before, is this safe on potable water?

I am thinking that either you put the tape on backwards, so when you tightened the fittings is took the Telflon tape off the joint, or you just needed to tighten the fitting a little more. You should be able to use Teflon tape OR pipe thread sealant. I usually use both so I can almost guarantee no leaks. But if I run out of one I just use the other.

As far as Locktite brand is concerned, If it does not say it is ok for potable water on the package, I would invest in some from the hardware store that is made for plumbing. No sense getting someone sick over a buck.
