Hello,
I have a Maytag Neptune mod MDE5500AYQ and the short drum baffle broke off. I just ordered the part but I wonder if you might point me in the right direction on the repair instead of me just winging it. Thank you in advance for any help.

You have to raise the top on it.

Then you can get to the drum baffles, they just unscrew from the opposite side of your drum.Here’s the short drum baffle for your model, in case others with your model need to order it as well:
