Oil burner internal coil hw to gas hw heater

January 28th, 2010

Hello,

I have a Weil Mclain Gold oil fired burner with an internal hot water (hw) heater coil. Its about 6 years old, 115,000 BTU, 85% efficiency. I would like to convert the hw function to a seperate conventional gas hw heater with 40 gallon tank. I am guessing I need to plug up the inlet and outlet of the oil burners internal hw heater coil and disconnect the hw thermostat on the oil fired burner. Has anyone out there done such a thing? Any details I have to be careful of? Is there any place I can get specifics on what has to be done?

Thanks for any info.

I was always taught not to plug off the old coil, otherwise it could build up pressure and become a problem. Just cut the pipes with a little riser and the water will eventually evaporate.
