Outdoor light – 18ga wire

January 12th, 2010

Hi,

I’ve installed an outdoor lamp post with factory installed 18 ga wire. Lamp link.

Considering that you are supposed to match the breaker to the wire and use, how should I handle this situation? I read that 18 ga wire should be connected to a 7 amp breaker (here)

I’m supposed to use a GFCI also, however the smallest is 15amp.

What are your standard procedures?

Thanks!

You can use the 14 gauge UF wire and snake up in the luminaire post and hook up there.

And the smallest size breaker they used for resdentail useage is 15 amp GFCI breaker which it used #14 wire size.

But however if you have 20 amp circuit you have no choice but use #12 wire size is minuim size to use.
