pedestal for whirlpool WFW9200SQ
I’m purchasing a whirlpool 4.0 ft3 washer (WFW9200SQ) and matchig electric dryer. I haven’t taken delivery yet so yell if this is a poor choice. My question relates to the pedestals offered for these front load machines. They want $228 ea (that’s $456 total) for a 15″ pedestal to bring the washer and dryer up to a reasonable height. This seems obscene. I know it has a drawer and it matches but these machines are going in my basement so for me it is all about function – I don’t need a drawer or pretty finish, just raise it up. However I’ve read the posts and at ~ 1200 rpm there is some vibration so this thing needs to be sturdy. Also someone (eg. me) might need to work on it someday so thinking about repair brings me here.
I looked at the whirlpool 15″ pedestal and it has 4 screws that go up into the washer. The bottom of the pedestal has leveling screws. It looks like the idea is to bolt it on and then it moves with the unit and can tip with the unit. My perception is for repair they generally stay together so you slide it out turn it around and such as a unit.
I can build a strong stand but I’m looking for any ideas that make this easier (when the delivery guys come they aren’t going to want to wait for me to drill holes for the mounting screws). I’m really curious if someone sells something that it made for this purpose that is more reasonably priced.
My current thought is a 2×12 box with 3/4 ply on top. I can drill holes for where the leg posts would go (corners) and maybe steel brackets or strapping from each of the 4 mounting holes screwed into the wood. Thanks for any comments/ideas.
We bought some “scratch & dent” LG pedestals for our LG’s on eBay… but watch the shipping prices
