popping noise from water heater

January 24th, 2010

I recently bought a home (built 2002) and when we use hot water, the hot water heater makes some popping noises.
I can only assume the water heater was newish in 2002.
I know it is gas, but dont know the brand.

Anybody know what causes this?
We have been researching the Autocirc1 and tankless water heaters.

If you live north of the Mason-Dixon line stay with tank type water heaters.

What you have is mineral deposits in the bottom of the tank and you should drain it out. Better yet have a good licensed plumber flush it out. My water heater is 39 years old and I flushed it out about 10 years ago when it started popping and drain a bucket of water out ever month for proper maintenance and long life .

Try calling some repair facilities in your area and see if they take waste oil. If yes thwn bring it to them. If not local recycling facilities take waste oil. Oh yeah by the way these two things are classified as waste oils.
