pulsing water

February 8th, 2010

I have a second level shower that has recently started to pulse. By that i mean the water does not come out in a steady stream, rather in a fast pulse.

Two things stop the pulsing,

1. Turning on the cold water at the bathroom sink.

2. Turning the shower heat up almost all of the way.

I have also noticed a water hammer when i use the cold water on the sink, I do not know if its related.

Id appreciate any ideas.

the 2 problems are probably not related. the shower problem sounds like a balancing spool in the valve. it is either worn out or has debris in it.
the sink problem sounds like a loose washer.
