Refrigerator GE Model TBX18JISERAD Not Cold

Refrigerator GE Model TBX18JISERAD

My Frig went out and had to buy new one fast, but would like to repair this one for a spare to use for my beer and extra ice. I have been reading this forum for several days and have learned much from you guys. Great web site!

Here is my info and what I have observed: I have frig setting on carport with day temp 70-80 degrees outside. Could not seem to get freezer below 40 degrees sometimes after it came out of defrost cycle, but would sometimes get down to 20-30 degrees overnight.

Compressor is running and not kicking in/out

All air flows are clear

Evaporator and condenser fans are working

Defrost heater and temp sensor are working, heater stays on 15-20 mins and then kicks off, but frig compressor stays off for one hour exactly total off time.

Freezer temps are about 70 degrees toward the end of this cycle before compressor kicks back on.

Frost pattern was only on top row coil all the way across.

After several days observing, finally I laid frig down on side and cleaned out all the dust bunnies, man it was full of them and extremely hard to get at some areas. Took condenser fan out for better access to back side of condenser. Set frig upright for several hours to let the oil and everything settle back down to compressor. I plugged it back up last night. I had marked timer with felt tip so I would know when it was about to or just had cycled the defrost mode.

I checked the freezer temp this morn at 4:00am was 40 degrees and looked to have come out of defrost mode about one hour before.

7:00 am freezer temp was 20 degrees

Freezer control is set at ā€œCā€, frig control set at 5.

12:30 pm freezer temp is at 11 degrees, dropped evaporator panel and took picture of frost pattern, top two rows of coil are frosted.

Outside temp today is 70 degrees in shade where frig is setting

The frig seems to be working better with condenser cleaning, but compressor has never kicked out yet that I have observed. Hopefully it is still trying to reach set temp. Does that sound right? My other question is, should defrost cycle time with compressor off be one hour? Seems like a long time, warming up compartment too much and then the frig has to start the cooling cycle from such a higher temp. Is my timer bad or is this the correct defrost cycle for this model? Also, is the temp sensor in the frig compartment part of the timer control or is it a separate part? Could this sensor be my problem? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When it comes out of the 15 or 20 minute defrost cycle, the compressor should then come on. Does the fan by the compressor run before the compressor comes on? It could be a couple of things, temp control could be acting up, defrost timer contacts could be going bad. If the compressor runs solid for one hour all the coils should be frosted up.
