Removing faucets, spout and shower head
At my son’s “fixer-upper” he had a tub surround that was yellowed and cracked. We yanked it off in small pieces and threw it out the window! We are ready to put in a new surround, but need to remove the hardware: The faucets are obvious…they have screws on the handles. How do we get the shower head and the water spout off? Shouldn’t they just be screwed onto threaded pipe?? Maybe we just aren’t twisting hard enough??? This is an older house and unfortunately appears to have been created using a lot of salvaged items!

The key word here is gently
You need to be gentle but with some force.
You want to grab the pipe and turn counterclockwise without pulling the pipe down or sideways. If the pipe is old, brass becomes brittle and will break off. then you have a bigger mess to deal with.
Good pliers or a pipe wrench are my recommendations for removal, but if you plan to reuse the arm, grab as far back as possible and put a rag around the pipe to minimize scratching.
