Reuse existing copper pipes

December 30th, 2009

Is it possible to reheat a soldered joint in copper pipe to separate existing “T’s”, connectors, etc.? Redoing kitchen and all cabinets. Instead of cutting the copper water lines, I would like to remove the soldered joints, and cap (sharkbite)main hot and cold lines until new sink cabinet is installed, then re-solder new cutoff valves etc. Pipe dream?

Any help would be appreciated.

Even if they came from the floor you can still un-sweat it at the tee going to the dishwasher and possibly a coupling on the cold side, if there is one. If you have room i would suggest just cutting them close to the wall or bottom of cabinet and then solder it back together with two coupling since your going to have to solder anyway.

If your going to un-sweat something make sure you open the faucet or the shutoff valves if faucet is already removed to drain the water down.
