Securing wire at box in plastic conduit ???

October 24th, 2009

I’m in the process of wiring my new garage. It has 10 ft high masnory walls and an open ceiling. I put all wire so far in plastic conduit and i didn’t see anyway to clamp the end of the run in the box or circuit breaker box. Is it not required because its in conduit ???
Also I’m moving/new circuit breaker box into the (attached)garage that services the house. I read that exposed masonary walls need conduit but when in trastions to the ceiling/truss area can I just terminate the conduit and staple/clamp the wire when it exits the conduit??

I don’t know about code, but if I were using PVC conduit in my garage, and using surface mounted boxes, they would be plastic boxes with slip fittings or metal boxes with knockouts for threaded fittings.

Regarding the transition from conduit to open area at the new location of the load center, you may have to derate your cables if there are multiple cables in one conduit. Somebody else will be along shortly to address this, I am sure. But yes, you should staple them where they come out.

Photos are always worth 1000 words. It’s not completely clear from your descriptions what materials you are using or how your situation is laid out.
