side by side ice maker noise
Model Number: GSS25JFMD WW Brand: GE Age: 5 – 10 years

Loud “purring” noise seems to come from top area of freezer side where icemaker motor is, I guess. I checked the condenser and fan below, in back, and the noise is not coming from there. I just turned the ice maker back on so it may be too soon to see if ice is making. But the noise started yesterday and I turned off the ice maker and emptied the ice out.
Manual says, by the way, that the condenser doesn’t need to be cleaned but it was quite dusty so I vacuumed that off. Refrigerator bought by previous owner in 2002. thanks for any suggestions.
Remove the cover from the ice maker. Check the teeth on the largest gear. Look close if one tooth is missing you can have problems. I suspect your ice makers heater is not working and the main gear is making the racket because the ice is not getting loose quick enough. It may be time for a new ice maker.
