1993 Cadillac Seville (4.9L) Trunk Latch System
Wondered if anyone might be able to give me some guidance on the 1993 Seville trunk latch system. While checking fuses inside the trunk (driver’s side panel), I accidently placed one of the 20A fuses into an unused location. To my suprise, this apparently completed a circuit which drove the (body side) trunk latch “hook” upwards approximately an inch or so. I’ve never seen this feature on any car and didn’t realize I had it. I can’t find any reference to this in the Haynes manual. Does anyone know how to reverse or reset this? My trunk lid is now raised above the surrounding rear panels!
Ok….. Slowly….
It was designed to “Suck” the trunk lid down to full closed position without “SLAMMING” it. A gentle touch engages the latch, and the motor lowers the trunk to the closed position.
There will be a switch on the TRUNK latch, to let the motor know it is closed and it should retract. Usually there is a “TAB” broken off of the retractor switch.
With the trunk open, press a screwdriver blade into the latch and close the “TEETH”. Simultaneously, engage the retractor switch by hand. Once it is retracted, pull the fuse back out until you can troubleshoot the system. It may be helpful to find another Caddy, and see how it is supposed to work. It has been used on most models since the early 80’s.
