Video/Graphics problem

March 10th, 2010

Hello all,
Hopefully someone on here can give me a hand with this. I’ve got a Gateway 420gr desktop, that I have rebuilt because in blew up about a year ago. I put in a new motherboard and hard drive and every thing is working fine so far. Except this, every now and again I get a surge in my monitor that looks like…i guess you could say a short, but it doesn’t last long at all. A second if that, but it does 2 or 3 times and it’s done for a while. But it does do it over and over. I am wondeing what the cause of this is. I have checked my settings and everything seems ok. Could this be a driver problem? or is it the monitor? Could it be the video or graphics card?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Probably wont help much but mine has done that before also, it makes a sound too. After about a week of it, it suddenly stopped. If I were to guess it looks like a monitor problem, because if it was a graphics problem you wouldn’t get the sound from the monitor. I have a CRT monitor, not sure what your using but it might just be because its a older type of monitor.

Major issues with mutli-monitor setup

February 11th, 2010

I’ve been running an EVGA Geforce 8800GT since December with dual monitors, a Samsung and a ViewSonic. Recently, my Adobe Photoshop said that my monitor wasn’t configured correctly, so I went to the Samsung website and downloaded a program that was supposed to help (MagicTune). The program, after installation, said it was incompatible, so I didn’t use it and didn’t think much more about it. Shortly after installation, I lost display from my Samsung monitor and everything switched over to my ViewSonic. I got rid of MagicTune (Had to just delete all of the files because it wouldn’t uninstall), but now I can’t get the graphics card to recognize the Samsung monitor (it’s a 220WM). I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the monitor, I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the graphics card. Nothing has worked thus far.

My device manager shows the following under monitors: ViewSonic, three “Default Monitors”, and Samsung. Everytime I do a plug and play connection for the samsung, these extra default monitors show up. Everytime I go to the dual display wizard, it will only detect ViewSonic and “Analog Display.” The multi-display wizard won’t recognize the Samsung for some reason. I should also clarify that neither of my monitors are connected analog, both have digital cables.

Any suggestions??? I’m desperate

I’m running on Windows XP Pro (32 bit).

Appears the software MagicTune left some remnants. If the program was not listed in Add/Remove and you just deleted that could be the problem. Normally a program will have a uninstall.exe file when not listed in Add/Remove. Try reinstalling MagicTune, then go to its directory and see if there is a uninstall program, then use that to get rid of it.

If not then you will need to manually get rid of it.

Start Run type in regedit hit )

Menu top go to Edit Find type in MagicTune, then as it finds the entries delete them. After it finds the first entry hitting the F3 key makes it find the next one and so on.

Once that is done go to Start and do a search for MagicTune and delete any entries you find.

Reboot.

random resets on only my profile

January 10th, 2010

ok ive been having this problem for months now and its really getting to me now so thats why im asking for help.

i have a Compaq Presario SR2150NX with 1gb RAM and a GeForce FX5500 and a second hdd. the RAM, graphics card and second hdd are the only things i have added to it. oh and im running WinXP SP2.

ok so my problem is that my computer will randomly reset but only on my profile. my dad also uses this computer and he said hes never had this happen to him. by random i mean sometimes it resets right when i log into my profile. sometimes it does it just a few minutes in. sometimes it does it when im playing a game. sometimes when im online, others when im not. sometimes it will do it two or three times a day and other times it wont happen for a week. the only semi consistent time it seems to reset is when i try to watch a video. its not every time though. i can usually watch a few videos and then ill try another one and it will reset as WMP is opening. again, this isnt always the case. ive done several virus scans with Avast and it usually never finds anything.

anyone have thoughts or suggestions? any help is greatly appreciated

Since it never happens to your Dad on the same computer. I would say the place to start is to setup a new profile for yourself. The old one may be corrupt..
