Oven won’t heat boiler still works

February 17th, 2010

Model Number: JGBP85CEH3CC Brand: GE Age: 1 – 5 years

——————————————————————————–

I was hoping someone could help me determine which part needs to be replace in our GE oven. The broiler works but the oven will not heat up. It worked the night before and late that evening we had a power outage for several hours due to bad storms. Could that have caused the problem? Thanks for any help.

Take an ohm reading of your glowbar, should be between 50-150ohms, if not within this range, your glowbar needs to be replaced

Power outage in bathroom.

February 15th, 2010

I recently lost power in my bathroom. I mean, the light switches don’t work (there are 4 diff panel/switches.. kind of a big bathroom).. A few of the receptacles do work… and a few of them don’t.. some have GFI in them.

I checked the fuse box, but there’s nothing strange there. I shut off the ones for the bathroom.. and even the Main one. But that didn’t seem to help.

I went around and tried to reset the ones with GFI’s in them, but nothing seemed to help my problem.

It’s also strange that I have a heat/lamp/light in the ceiling (from a different switch/panel) which is working fine.

What the heck could be wrong?
I have no idea!!

The GFCI device he speaks of could be anywhere. Inside, outside, front, back or hidden behind something in a basement or garage. It maybe a receptacle, it may be part of a switch, it may have a blank face except for test buttons.
Breakers can fail, but in my experience this is a rare occurence.

Did you try to troubleshoot the switches to see if you had power there? Is there a loose connection in the switch box?

City Sewer Backup – Check Valve

December 26th, 2009

I recently had my main sewer line from the house to the street replaced (collapsed tile, tree root). They dug up part of the old tile and inserted 4″ pvc inside the remaining 6″ tile.
At the time they asked if I wanted a backflow check valve installed. I declined, partly because of cost, partly bacause my part of town it’s not really necessary.
On second thought, is there some way I can block my sewer from backing up, from, say a 15″ downpour and a widespread power outage? Would one of those Cherne 4″ test balls work? Seems that would be easier than removing toilet, sink & tub trap, floor drain, etc. Would be nice to have some kind of back-up plan.
Not that we have many 15″ downpours. (Except for Mon & Tues)

It will only work on fridays. Yes it would work but you can’t use your plumbing till you remove it.
