Amana Refrigerator Model ARB224RCW

January 12th, 2010

I want to fix my 6 year old (not child, although it would be nice) Amana refrigerator. I’m pretty sure the defrost is not working. There is frost on the back wall of freezer, which although might be useful for those margaritas, the refrigerator doesn’t seam to like it (trust me, I asked it). A drawing of the refrigerator would be helpful; not my 6 year old child’s rendition of the refrigerator, but a schematic. Plus any words of wisdom would be great! Thanks.

Good news is this isn’t one of the models that has the adc board it has the old style timer #12 in this breakdown…you will have to disassemble the inside top part of the fridge to get at it…after finding it there will be a little button on it you will twist with a screwdriver till it shuts the ref. down and the fans stop running…this will start the defrost cycle….the evaporator is behind the rear panel in the freezer shown in this breakdown and the heater is #15 in diagram..it should be on while the timer is in defrost mode..if the heater isn’t on you will need to verify it’s good with a meter checking its continuity (unplug the box for this) also wired in series with the heater is a defrost thermostat or bi metal it controls the heater for coming on and going off…it is a silver round disc with wires attatched you can check this also with a meter but it must be cold usually below 25 degrees or so…these are the 3 things that could be wrong with it check them and get back to us…good luck

One Piece Shower Flange/Wall Crack

November 30th, 2009

I have a one piece tub and shower. I believe it is made of fiberglass. Twice now, a crack in the wall all the way around the flange has opened up. It has been suggested that this happens because the installer did not put the sheetrock over the flange, but put the unit in with the flange flush. Last time I fixed the crack I ran deck screws through the flange into the studs, but this didn’t help…it’s cracked again.

Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe I’d just put in some decorative tile/trim over the crack to cover it. Thanks for any input!

If the sheetrock was not brought over the flange to cover it, I would do as you said and add a trim board around the edges to cover the seam. That is what a landlord of mine had done once and it came out quite nice.
