Toilet Pipe Banging When Flushed
My problem is coming only from my second floor toilet. When ever it is flushed there is a very loud banging noise that sounds like a PVC pipe hitting the frame. I tried strapping the pipe in the basement, as well as placing foam against the floor joists but it still happens. Its a new home (3 months old),so was it just a faulty install and nothing can be done or is there some sort of a fix. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I dont know where you are but may be I can give you something to think about. (1) If your house is 3 months old you should call your builder and give them a chance to respond….most builders in our neck of the woods respond proptly to plumbing problems because of the damage they can cause. A friend of mine just had the builder out to fix a leak in his tub/shower unit ( new drain and dry wall ) 5 years after he bought his home.
( 2 ) Most of the noise problems in water piping are caused by (a) Excessive pressure (b) Water moving through the line at a high velocity …possibly undersized pipe. (c) Quick-closing valves causing water hammer. Many new ballcocks open and close very quickly. When they close too quickly they can cause a water hammer effect…imagine the water in the pipe moving at 30 miles per hour and suddenly running into a brick wall… for a split second it can increase the psi many time over and send a shock wave back the opposite direction. This is a very serious condition because the entire piping system is put under extreme pressures over and over again. It is possible to rupture pipe or split fittings or rupture supply tubing if not remedied quickly. I hope this helps in some way! Good luck!! Let me know what you find out…
