Toilet problem
One of my toilets upstairs is leaking into a room under it down stairs. There is no water on the floor in the room where the leaky toilet is. Only in the room under it. The toilet also won’t stay tightened to the floor either. We tried replacing the wax ring and putting a new flange down. It is still leaking.
We are probably going to go ahead and replace the toilet with a new one that hopefully flushes better than this old one. But, wanted to see what else might need to be replaced to stop the leak. The floor doesn’t seem to be level either. Any ideas would be great. Thank you.
the toilet rocks, because the flange is not fastened to the floor. the leak my be caused because of the heavy metal
[rocking] toilet. pull the toilet and fasten the toilet to the floor, perferabiliy using brass screws. they will last longer.
it needs to have at least 4 screws in it. not just into the tile
but all the way into the wood subfloor. reset toilet. and lets see if that was it don’t cheap out, buy new wax ring. but I believe the problem is further down the line, which isn’t good for you.
You are going to have to cut a hole in the ceiling of the room below the toilet. I suspect the sweep has broken on the sewer line and is leaking. Once you have the hole cut you will be able to see where the water is coming from.
I can only tell you I have done several of these jobs in houses and it isn’t the most fun thing, but it can be done.
This may sound strange, but it is just as easy to patch a 2 X 4 foot hole as it is a 1 X 1 foot hole, but the 2 X 4 hole makes working on the plumbing a lot easier.
