Trying to take off Shower faucett assembly, please help!!

I have single control tub and shower set, maybe Pfister, bought it 7 years ago from menards, I did not install it. I can get the screws of of the wall base, but not the handle, looked for a set screw, there is not one in it. How do I get the thing off, so I can pull the back plate, and why we are doing this, how do you get the part that the water comes out off. Not the shower head, the one that is by the bathtub. Please help as soon as you can.
Did you remove the cover on the handle? Depending on the style, there is a screw underneath, that, when loosened, will allow the handle to be removed. If it is an L shaped handle, the long part of the L will unscrew and expose a set screw inside.
