Unscrewing tub jets – need to grip better
I am trying to unscrew jet faces from a 20 year old Hydrabaths whirlpool, and several of them are stuck in really well. We have hard water and I think they’re just cemented in with mineral deposits. (I was able to unscrew two of the six).
The jet faces are chrome, and the biggest issue is that I can’t get a good grip on them. Does anyone had a recommendation for a sticky or grippy material that I can use, preferably a mitt or glove? I’ve tried fine sandpaper and it slips off, and I tried latex kitchen gloves and they didn’t work either. I don’t care of the finish on the jets is messed up; I’m replacing them anyway.
I appreciate any tips or tricks, and thanks in advance!
try pouring some CLR or similar over the jets a few times and let sit a few minutes in between.
If you do not care about the finish, can you get some water pump pliers or channelocks on them. If you were worried about the finish, you could cover them with a rag first. They also make a strap wrench which may help
