Water level slowly drops in toilet BOWL
Hi! All toilets in house flush OK. MBR toilet bowl fills to normal level and in about 1/2 hour water level is at bottom of bowl. To double check for clogged drain pipe, I filled tub, sink, then flushed full toilet bowl and at same time drained tub and sink. Worked great, so I assumed no clog in this drain.
Suspected clogged vent pipe. In basement, could see the main drain for this bath, where the toilet, tub, sink connected. ALSO CAN SEE THE VENT PIPE CONNECTION which is six feet after the toilet connection, towards the septic. ON THE VENT PIPE, about 4 inches up, there is a removable plug. I reasoned that if I removed the plug, this would let air into the drain, which would eliminate any vacuum that would cause the toilet bowl to siphon. So I made sure the bowl was full, removed the plug, hoping the toilet would not again drain. But that didn’t happen. Does it look like I don’t have any blockage of the vent or the drain?? I am leaning toward a small crack somewhere in the toilet bottom allowing the water to leak into the drain.
Is there a way to prove this without removing the toilet?? Is there any additive (like for car radiators) that can be poured into the toilet that will seal a crack?? Any ideas on how to diagnose. Thanks for your time and attention…
If you fill the toilet BOWL up to it’s water line and it steadily drops when you are not using any other water in the house, then you can figure you have a crack in the bowl.
