What Kind of Box & Fittings Under Covered Deck?

October 14th, 2009

I have a 6′ wide deck along one side of my house. The deck is about 2 feet above the ground. It is covered by a roof (i.e. wood, shingled) and the roof extends about 9′ from the wall.

I am going to add EMT and receptacles and attach them to the wall.

1. Can I use setscrew fittings or do I need to use compression fittings?

2. Can I use flap-type receptacle covers or do I need to use those big covers (”in-use” I believe they’re called)?

3. Can I use a “regular” (sorry, don’t know the term for them) boxes or must I use weatherproof ones?

Wet location.
If you are using EMT, you will need compression fittings, wp boxes and “In Use” covers.
Why not use PVC with FS or FSE boxes.
The EMT isn’t going to last outdoors for more that a couple of years without significant rust.
