Wiring utilizing Genset/UPS
Hi — I am rewiring my home, and I would like to add the functionality of a generator and have a few circuits on several UPSs (if your wondering I work from home and have computers all over the house). I would plan on having one outlet in each room on a UPS circuit.
My question is are there NEC rules about connecting home circuits (obviously utilizing 12g NM) into a non-hardwired UPS (with NEMA 5-15 outlets — was thinking about wiring NM to box right next UPS and short cord to UPS outlet)? I had planned to have 4 circuits on UPS power over two UPSs each capable of output of 2250W. I am utilizing intelligent UPSs capable of circuit shutoff in case of overload, additionally these would be bedroom/HO rooms only, no deep fryers or microwaves on them.
Any suggestions?
for the UPS useage if happend to be in bedroom area there is a fine line depending on what state you are in and the year of the code in effect and most area what they adopted after 2002 or later will use the AFCI in bedroom circuit but however if you are on 2008 code cycle that will change a bit everything reqired AFCI or GFCI depending on what room it is.
the way you describing the UPS that is pretty big unit most UPS will rate both wattage and running time as well [ most UPS have battery system in there so that the reason of running time it is very depent on the amount of load itself.]
most i did see useally 1200 or little less and they have 5~30 min time depending on the size and the computer, monitor size , other stuff as need to support thru the power failure.
have 1200 watt UPS and i set it for 5 min time and after 5 min i have specal program it will command to shut down the computer no matter what if you are useing or on stand by.[ that setting it gave me plenty time to crank up my stand by generator ]
